Digestive bleeding secondary to symptomatic gastric lipoma: Case report

Abstract

A 72-year-old male patient, with a history of high blood pressure and bronchial asthma, presents abdominal pain that had been going on for days; dark stools, gastric heaviness and weight loss. On physical examination, painful abdomen at the level of the low epigastrium and cutaneous-mucosal pallor. Complementary tests show low hematocrit and hemoglobin levels. Abdominal ultrasonography reports an image of pseudokidney towards the gastric antrum. This case report has the objective of stimulating the use of the clinical method in students and the use of correct diagnostic thinking, both clinical and histological. The case is discussed and it is decided to excise the tumor; a subtotal gastrectomy surgical technique is used. A specimen was sent for pathological study, the result reported: submucosal gastric lipoma with secondary ulceration of the mucosa. The evolution is favorable and after one year, he is asymptomatic and without recurrence of the lesion.
