Abstract

Notable médico internista y salubrista cubano. Nació en Santiago de Cuba el 6 de noviembre de 1928, hijo de Mario Escalona y María Reguera. Cursó la enseñanza primaria y parte de la media en el Colegio “Juan Bautista Sagarra”, Santiago de Cuba, del pedagogo e historiador Francisco Ibarra Martínez. En el Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de La Habana se graduó de Bachiller en Ciencias (1946). En la Universidad de La Habana alcanzó el título de Doctor en Medicina (1953) con la tesis “Estudio clínico del absceso hepático amebiano”. Por su expediente de estudios obtuvo los puestos de alumno interno del Hospital Universitario “Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes” (1951-1952) y alumno interno (1952-1953) y médico interno (1953-1955) del Hospital Universitario “General Calixto García”.
