Abstract

Eminente bacteriólogo cubano de prestigio internacional. Nació en Pinar del Río, provincia Pinar del Río, el 1 de septiembre de 1901, hijo de José Félix Curbelo y Úrsula Hernández. Cursó la enseñanza primaria en la Escuela Pública No. 179 de su ciudad natal. Los estudios secundarios los realizó en parte en New York y se graduó de Bachiller en Letras y Ciencias (1915) en el Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de Pinar del Río. En la Universidad de La Habana se graduó de Doctor en Medicina (1923). Recibió cursos de especialización, en Estados Unidos, sobre Antibióticos en la Universidad de Fordham y sobre Virología en el Comunicable Desease Center, Montgomery, Alabama.
