Abstract

Salubrista e infectólogo cubano de prestigio internacional. Nació en Matanzas, provinciaMatanzas, el 4 de enero de 1852, hijo de Eusebio Guiteras y Josefina Gener. La familia Guiteras es de gran importancia en la cultura cubana, su padre y sus tíos Pedro José y Antonio Guiteras Font, fueron eminentes pedagogos y sacrificados patriotas, y Pedro José, además de obra clásica en la historiografía cubana. Juan Guiteras recibió las enseñanzas primara y secundaria en el famoso Colegio “ La Empresa”, de Matanzas, propiedad de su familia, para graduarse de Bachiller en Artes en el Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de Matanzas (1867).
