Oral Manifestations and Dental Biosafety in Mpox

Mpox is a contagious zoonotic infection caused by the mpox virus. The oral cavity is a common site for signs of the disease to appear, especially in the oropharynx, before manifesting on the skin. The most common oral manifestations are erythematous ulcers, ulcerative vesicles, and those associated with lymphadenopathy. The objective of this study is to disseminate the symptoms of mpox and its prevention in dentistry. Zoonotic transmission occurs in animals, and human-to-human transmission involves bodily fluids or large respirable droplets or fomites from an infected individual. Dentists are at risk of transmission due to their inevitable proximity to the patient. Protective measures such as face masks, goggles, gloves, handwashing, and treating infected patients only in emergencies are recommended.
