Abstract

Sleep is a topic that is rarely addressed in the academic training of physicians and residents in General Medicine and Pediatrics. This training limitation means that during the interview, physicians do not ask questions regarding sleep and that parents ignore this topic. Failure to intervene in this problem in a timely manner generates a negative impact on the somatic growth and physical and mental health of children and adolescents. Poor sleep quality causes immunological, endocrine, cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Variations in the quality and duration of sleep at all stages of life can cause depression and alterations in social and academic behavior, with imbalances in the ability to cope with the environment and people. For this reason, it is necessary to train individuals based on their age and family so that they achieve adequate sleep patterns.
