Garengeot hernia. Case report

Garengeot hernia is a rare condition, characterized by the presence of an appendix in a femoral hernia. This case is reported with the objective of disseminating the essential theoretical bases, the correct diagnosis and anesthetic management, of this disease, of little clinical suspicion, where generally the definitive diagnosis is during the intraoperative period. A 58-year-old white female patient attended the General Surgery service due to a stuck femoral hernia. Regional spinal anesthesia was administered and the diagnosis and repair of a Garengeot hernia and appendectomy were performed. The postoperative period has no complications and she was discharged three days later. Garengeot hernia can occur in young patients; it should be considered in women with a history of femoral hernia. Its diagnosis is an intraoperative finding, herniorrhaphy is the most commonly used surgical procedure and is complemented by an appendectomy.
