Globular Sedimentation speed in Westergren method with sodium citrate and etilendiaminotetracetic acid
Keywords:
globular sedimentation speed, sodium citrate, etilendiaminotetracetic acidAbstract
Introduction: Globular Sedimentation speed, is the second hematologic test, requested in Primary Health Care. The sample for the hematic biometry of electronic recorders with potassium etilendiaminotetracetic at 10 % is scarcely used in Cuba, for the determination of the globular sedimentation speed.
Objective: To evaluate the relation of the globular sedimentation speed with sodium citrate at 3.8 % and potassium etilendiaminotetracetic acid at 10 % as a diagnostic test
Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was carried out to compare the use of both anticoagulants, to measure the globular sedimentation speed, by the Westergren method in 100 patients who went to the clinical laboratory at ¨José Ramón Martínez¨ Pediatric Hospital from Artemisa, during the period from September to November, 2017.
Results: 51 % of non-normal and the 49 % normal globular sedimentation speed were analyzed, Pearson correlation between the results of both anticoagulants were significant with p<0.001, The supposed of the tests of signification for the analysis of lineal regression were achieved, obtaining the equation Y = - 2.698 + 0.756 (X) to convert the results of the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate with the method with etilendiaminotetracetic acid to the values obtained with sodium citrate.
Conclusions: The results show that the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate, through a sample of anticoagulated blood with etilendiaminotetracetic acid has a good correlation with the performed test with sodium citrate; it is possible to implement its use mainly in children.
